In the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, privacy is paramount for many users. While some blockchain networks provide a certain level of anonymity, creating a truly anonymous wallet can be a challenge.
To use a wallet, you need a minimum amount of tokens to pay for gas and storage, but if you use another wallet or a centralized exchange to fund it, you'll loose your anonymity.
In this article we want to guide you through the process of creating a completely anonymous wallet on the NEAR Protocol using the mixer service hideyour.cash.
Step 1: Setting up a new NEAR wallet in a private browser
To create a new wallet on the NEAR Protocol, first, open a private browsing window (such as Incognito mode in Google Chrome or Private Window in Firefox). This will ensure that you won't use an old wallet that is already saved in your browser to create the new one. This will also ensure that your browsing history and cookies are not saved, adding an extra layer of privacy to the process.
Visit the My NEAR Wallet website: https://www.mynearwallet.com/.
Click "Create Account."
Follow the on-screen instructions to create your wallet. Securely store your seed phrase or use a hardware wallet to secure it, as losing it will result in losing access to your wallet.
Step 2: Funding the new wallet with hideyour.cash
To use your NEAR wallet, you'll need to fund it. To maintain anonymity, you can use hideyour.cash to send funds privately to your new wallet.
Visit the hideyour.cash website: https://hideyour.cash/app
Enter the amount of NEAR you want to deposit into the mixer and confirm the transaction.
When depositing the funds, you'll receive a ticket number. Store this ticket securely, as it's needed to generate a zero-knowledge (ZK) proof for withdrawal later. Wait for at least 30 minutes for the funds to be mixed with other transactions.
Step 3: Withdrawing the mixed funds to the new NEAR wallet
After the mixer has processed your deposit and mixed the funds with other users' transactions, you can withdraw the mixed funds to your new NEAR wallet.
Go back to the hideyour.cash website.
Navigate to the "Withdraw" section.
Enter your ticket number from Step 2.
Provide the destination address, which is the address of your newly created anonymous NEAR wallet.
Initiate the withdrawal process.
Hideyour.cash uses a relayer to process withdrawals, similar to Tornado.cash. The relayer pays for the transaction gas in exchange for a small fee, so that the new wallet receives the funds without the need of paying for gas. This way, the relayer ensures that the funds sent to your new wallet are not directly connected to your previous wallet, maintaining your anonymity.
